"There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in
yourself, for what we see is what we are."
Ernst Haas.
Hello! Welcome to Faye Watson Photography, I am Faye, and this is my work!
I started taking photos when I was about 12 after following my cousin around competitions with her horses... whilst with her, to keep me entertained I was let loose on a Nikon D80, and never looked back. By the age of 15 I owned my own Nikon D90 and was trucking all around the south of England with my friends taking photos of them competing. It wasn't until July 2010 that I actually realised that I may be quite good. I received an email from a top equestrian photographer telling me how impressed he was with my images from Express Eventing (a competition I attended, photographing my cousin) and saying "you've obviously got an eye for an image!".
After this I branched out and started to explore what else I could take photos of. I decided to take a GCSE in photography so that I could learn all the basic skills of composing good images, but also so I could really explore what having a camera could offer! Whilst carrying out this qualification I chased sunrises in Devon at 05:30am, chased wild horses around a fenland in Cambridgeshire... as well as covering my friends in paint and sticking them up trees! See photo below...
I have also spent a great deal of time out in the wilderness photographing wildlife and the weird and wonderful. For example when on holiday in Ireland this summer I spent a couple of hours on a boat following a bottlenose Dolphin and photographing him. I take a great deal of pleasure from being able to produce a unique photo, and this is what I strive to do, no matter which type of photography I am doing.
Since starting to explore the world of photography I have photographed at weddings, sporting events, private parties and even been asked to produce some graphics for a website. I am lucky enough to have been published in Pony Magazine, Horse Deals and British Eventing, as well as gaining accreditation for my photos on Mark Todd's (Olympic Event Rider) website, as well as other websites including Flora Harris Eventing and Balinmore Stud. In addition to this I am also an accredited photographer for Eventing Worldwide, the biggest blogging website in the equestrian world. (Please see bottom of page for examples of my work online and in print).
I am currently at Cardiff University studying for a degree in Biology, and am lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful land in the British isles, including the Gower Peninsula and also in close range of Skomer Island- famous for its Puffins. Whilst I am at Cardiff I hope to be able to continue taking unique images and therefore hope to expand my portfolio. Thank you for reading, feel free to look around, and please leave me some feedback if you have time, its always welcome! :)
